Thursday, April 17, LMH Main Room 1-2:30pm. An Experiential Program to Support Vision, Movement, and Balance with Ree Coleman We are all keenly aware of our sense of sight and how our sight and eyes support us each day. Also associated with our sight are two less talked about senses: proprioception, a sense of where your body parts are and what they’re doing; and equilibrioception, a sense of balance, aka your internal GPS, letting you know if you’re sitting or lying down. Both are important parts of our systems that can be trained to support us in all parts of our day to create greater balance and harmony with each step and breath. Ree Coleman returns to start us off with some movement and will then focus on educating us on creating healthier vision habits to ease the daily stress and strain our eyes endure. Ree is a certified Kundalini Yoga, specializing in Eyes On Yoga combining yoga with the Bates Method Vision Improvement, as well as Brain Gym to coordinate eyes with brain and body for greater balance.

Nancy McCarthy has been active in the fitness world for over 30 years. She is the former co-owner of Natural High Fitness at the Tannery. Recently, she became certified as a Supported Exercise for Ageless Training (S.E.A.T) instructor.

Thursday, October 16, LMH Main Room, 1-2:30pm. Join Exploring Elderhood Together for the first presentation of the church year: Let’s Talk about Posture. Aging with aligned posture is critical to aging well. Misaligned posture such as rounding forward (otherwise known as the way most of us age) is associated with pain and a multitude of health problems. In this presentation, you will learn how the nervous system controls posture, balance, and movement. We can use this understanding to make improvements in neuromuscular function, which can help us maintain a more active lifestyle and positively impact longevity. Our presenter: Jackie Orent-Nathan is a Nurse Practitioner specializing in the neuroscience of posture, balance, and movement, as well as the management of chronic pain. Following a long career managing patients with chronic pain within a primary care practice, she now lectures and teaches classes about how to calm an overprotective nervous system to manage pain, and how to support the nervous system to improve posture, balance, and movement.
2nd Wednesdays, LMH Nursery/Conf Room, 3-4:30pm. Steering committee planning meeting.

Our conversations will be moderated by FRSUU member Nancy Kidd and her former co-worker Marijane Helbick, both licensed social workers. Join us to talk about a positive, realistic view of aging as a meaningful stage of life.

THIS PRESENTATION IS CANCELED DUE TO ILLNESS. Thursday, December 18, LMH Main Room, 1-2:30pm. Aging Well Spiritually Focusing on lessons learned through their hospice and chaplaincy work, Rev. Jane Tuohy and Nancy Kidd invite you to consider ways to strengthen your spiritual capacities. These capacities are what support us as we face our own mortality and that of our beloveds. They will explore the concepts of intention, attitude, and resilience, and specific qualities we can develop through “spiritual training.” There will be time for reflection as well as dialogue with one another. Nancy Kidd is an FRSUU member and licensed independent clinical social worker. Rev. Jane Tuohy is an FRSUU member who offers interfaith programming here at church and has focused on interfaith exploration of mysticism and contemplative practices.
